This week it was really hot again and an end of the very high temperatures is not in sight 🙁
This week’s article was about the DJI Mic Mini that I have owned for more than half a year now. It is a fairly uncomplicated and also relatively inexpensive set of wireless microphones, which stands out above all because it is really easy to set up and use.
The set consists of two microphones and a receiver, which is connected to the camera via an appropriate cable. In addition, a connection of the microphones via Bluetooth, for example, with a MacBook Pro or the Osmo Pocket 3 is possible without any problems.
Unlike the microphones that come with the Osmo Pocket 3, the DJI Mic Mini does not have a 32-bit float recording. This means that – as was customary in the past – you have to level the volume a bit before recording. However, this sounds worse than it is in practice, and can be done within a few moments at least in controlled environments, such as here in the studio for YouTube videos.
As an additional security, DJI offers the Mic Mini the possibility to record a second audio track with reduced volume. However, this only works if only one microphone is used for mono recordings and not both microphones are in use at the same time.
I do not find the 24-bit recording as a limitation at all. Especially for YouTube videos, this combination can be used very easily. What is missing, however, is an input with a corresponding jack plug, to which – as with the DJI Mic 2, which is included with the Osmo Pocket 3 – a lavalier microphone can be connected. Unfortunately, this is not possible with the Mic Mini.
I had initially bought the version without charging cradle, but later reordered the charging cradle separately. As a result, everything is now compactly accommodated in a housing. In addition, both the microphones and the receiver are charged simultaneously via the integrated contacts.
Overall, I am pleasantly surprised by this microphone or microphone set, especially with regard to the quality of the recordings.
There is also news from Skylum. The company has extended its summer sale campaign with corresponding discounts until July. As a result, you can currently easily reach for an inexpensive RAW converter with AI support. Of course, you can first download a trial version or purchase a discounted version for macOS or Windows via the following Link for macOS or Windows.
A few weeks ago I also reported on the Ugreen Revodok, which I liked very much and which I will continue to use. However, I had minor problems with the connected Thunderbolt drive or the Ugreen case. In particular, my MacBook occasionally reported that the drive had not been removed properly. This indicated that the connection was interrupted for a short time and the drive was not integrated correctly.
At first, I suspected that the current midsummer temperatures could be responsible for this. However, a measurement only showed temperatures of about 52 to 53 degrees Celsius on the surface of the device. For electronic components, this is usually not a particular problem.
In the meantime, however, I have found the real cause. The original Thunderbolt cable in this combination is not quite as tight as other cables. Although it is not really loose, it occasionally causes short contact interruptions. That’s why I got another Thunderbolt 4 cable and connected it in the meantime. Since then, the drive runs without problems and also without additional cooling.
In conclusion, I would like to report on the status of the problems with my Windows 11 licenses via VIP-CDKey. Although the company got in touch and allegedly could not understand my problem. They gave me a discount, which would have meant that I would have to pay again for one or more licenses.
Unfortunately, it turned out that the existing Windows 11 keys can no longer be used for activation. I have already contacted the dealer and am now curious to see how they react to the fact that Windows 11 cannot be activated with the supplied keys.
So just under 80,– € put in the sand. From my point of view, I can only warn against VIP-CDKey, because apparently not only OEM licenses are sold here. If you have a good tip for OEM licenses, feel free to comment here.
