Why the Lumix S1 II is the ideal addition to the Lumix S1R II
Recently I had fulfilled my dream, so to speak, and then got the Lumix S1R II as part of an action. But then I somehow lacked another system camera for cases where the Lumix S9 is not sufficient.
Introduction

The Lumix S1R II is a dream camera that I don’t want to do without with its 44 MPixels and up to 8K video resolution. The Lumix S9 is rather a very well equipped fun camera or if you want to be on the road with little luggage. I had the Lumix S5IIx, a really excellent camera sowol for photography as well as video recordings.
What really bothered me in daily operation were the different housings and especially the different arrangement of the operating elements. In addition, I was really used to the foldable display.
That’s why I was looking for a Lumix S1IIe, a kind of S5 in the guise of the S1 series with the same controls, stricter separation of photo and video settings and of course the foldable display.
And then the Lumix S1 II?
But in the end, the S1 II has become, even if the price difference to the S1 IIe is quite decent. On the other hand, nman does not buy such an expensive system camera every day and I wanted to be equipped for the future.

As I said, the two cameras do not differ from the housing, you have to look at the nameplate. They are simply the same control elements as the Lumix S1R II.

The focus of this camera is clearly on video and fast images. Nevertheless, you can also get quite far in photography with a 24 MPixel sensor, which I have experienced both with the S5 and acutely with the S5 IIx.
High Speed

The Lumix S1 II can record up to 70 frames/second with the electronic shutter, and the high readout speed should also ensure that the AF is still a little better than with the other Lumix cameras.
In the video area, the camera scores with the more than sufficient 6K format but also with FHD videos with max. 240 frames/second. Well, I haven’t had the opportunity to try these highest speeds so far.
Same accessories
What I also like about Lumix is that here some camera models can use the same accessories. This is already starting with the batteries (although the DMW-BLK-22 for the Lumix S1R II is already a bit small) and continues. Of course, I also have a CFExpress card for this camera, although it is only half as big due to the massively increased prices for storage media.

I also ordered a cage from Smallrig for the Lumix S1II, namely the 5502, which was designated as the successor to the 4902, which I have for the Lumix S1R.

M.E., however, this newer model has a decisive disadvantage, because there is a kind of bridge in front of the rotary knobs, which unfortunately prevents it from being able to completely cover the button, which is impeccable with the older model.
Result
For me, the Lumix S1 II has proven to be the right choice, I think I would have regretted it after a short time if I had gotten on the Lumix S1IIe as originally planned.
Nevertheless, the Lumix S1IIe is worth a look if you are looking for a Lumix S5, but looking for the new case with the really better controls.
