This week it was cooler and above all rainier 😉 and you can tell that autumn is slowly coming

This week’s article was about describing why I switched from the RTX 3060 to Windows-PC from the RTX 3060 to the RTX 5080. Triggers in Da Vinci Resolve were some effects generated via Fusion, and here when rendering the frame rate went down to 4.5 frames per second, so that rendering a corresponding video takes a very, very long time. Same game of course also with MacBook Pro.
Of course, I can’t expand the hardware here and so I had no choice but to say, then I have to bite into the sour apple and then get a better graphics card for my Windows PC. That’s what I did and also used the 5080, so that the Windows 11 PC is still equipped with the Intel Core i7 14700 and with 64 gigabytes of RAM.
The replacement of the graphics card was actually noticed immediately, because here a corresponding band park, which was published by TFA at the time, was always only rendered with two, maximum three frames per second. But a normal video, as I said, among other things the project with the fusion effect then came to almost 100 frames per second, so that the project could be completed quite quickly.

Of course, you also have to see the other side of the coin, that of course here such a high-load graphics card also draws a lot of power from the socket at real utilization and in my measurements that was about 480 watts, so that this effect is not to be neglected. Nevertheless, I have to say that I now complete many of my rendering tasks via the Windows PC and have not regretted buying the 5080 despite the rather high price.

Then we had the Apple event this week, where Apple introduced various new iPhones in particular – and this time for the first time also a foldable iPhone, namely the iPhone Duo. This iPhone has a 7.6-inch display and can be folded accordingly so that, as you already know from other foldable smartphones, you hold a kind of tablet in your hand. However, the prices are also decent, as the iPhone Duo in the smallest version should cost almost 2,300 euros.
Now that we’re talking about prices: Of course, in the RAM crisis, Apple has raised the prices for all iPhones – even for the older models that are still available – relatively strongly . The prices for RAM and everything to do with memory (both RAM and NVMe drives or CFexpress cards) are just the bright madness.

In addition, Sigma has released a much-regarded and very compact lens with a focal length range of 20 to 60 mm and a light intensity of f/2.8 to 4 . This compact lens is calculated for full frame, is available for the L-mount and should be a real competition to the Panasonic 24-60mm f/2.8 due to its compactness. The new lens should be available at relatively short notice at a price of just under 850 euros.
In any case, a very interesting lens, which should also be quite good in terms of optical quality after first reviews.

In conclusion, we have a hint: At Skylum, a sale is now starting with a 20 percent discount on the individual available apps. The promotional period runs from the 11th (so started a few days ago) up to and including the 20th. So if you feel like one of the Skylum products – which are no longer called Luminar Neo – you can order via the link and receive an immediate discount of 20 percent on the license, which may also extend to the various mobile products.
All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you like the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.
