Last week review 35-2024
Weekly review 35-2024 with 2 really hot days, but sometimes you can already tell early in the morning that autumn is just around the corner.
This week it was about a cross-platform solution for AirDrop from the Apple world. It is simply convenient when you can send a file, be it text, video, photo or something else, to another Apple device nearby via AirDrop. In the open source area there is the Localsend program, which offers very similar functionality. Localsend is not only available for Mac, but also as an app for iOS and Android, but Windows and Lunix are also not missing from the list of supported systems.
Localsend is initially in receive mode. The programs use WiFi to determine who is nearby and to whom data can be sent.
The speed of the data transfer naturally depends on the network used. With the documented port 53311, clients can also send from the WLAN to recipients who are only connected via LAN if this is enabled in the firewall. Overall, a very useful tool, especially for those who are on multiple platforms.
Then there is news from Skylum, who have now started another discount campaign that ends on September 9th. For example, you can get the lifetime license of Luminar NEO for €59.00 instead of €79.00 and just €59.00 for the annual subscription. If you order via this link with the code TUXOCHE you even get another 10%.
This gives you a program with which the entire RAW workflow can be handled at a very high level. Of course, you can also use Luminar NEO as a plugin for Lightroom or Photoshop.
A long time ago I reported on the Raspberry Pi 4, which even ran my Nextcloud for a while. And I have a certain passion for such mini PCs, but the support for the ARM CPU is not yet as great as for the X86 CPU. I heard about the Raxda X4 SBC, which is operated with an Intel N100 CPU. Unfortunately, the SBC, which is offered with RAM sizes of 4.8 and 12 GB, is practically unavailable in Europe, and now the 2nd batch on AliExpress was sold out within a few days.
I ordered a model with 8 GB RAM and a 64 GB EEMC disk, which arrived this week. I’ve already tried it out a bit and will certainly report on it here.
All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you like the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.
