Nisi magnetic Filtersystem assume but expensive

Introduction

Who doesn’t know it? You have different lenses. For example, with me the Sigma 16-28 mm, the 20-60 mm kit and maybe the 70-300 mm lens. And all three lenses have different filter diameters. Even if we may need less filters in digital photo editing these days, there are two areas left and these are Grafilters for video recordings, especially for long exposure during the day and of course a pool filter to delete reflections, for example.

Situation with screw filters

Until now, the tip was always valid: Buy the filters in the largest filter diameter and adjust the rest with step-down rings. This means that, for example, I basically had my filters in 77 mm. And the adaptation to the lenses, which were equipped with filter diameters of 67 or 62 mm, then the filter was adapted via a corresponding step-down ring.

However, this is a problem, especially when using a variable grafilter for videography, for example, if you want to constantly switch between video and photo. Then you can’t get out of the  unscrewing anymore and as it is then, it may happen again that such a filter is screwed on incorrectly, does not fit properly or other things.

NiSi JetMag filter system

This is sometimes a bit annoying and this is where the Ni-Jetmag filter system comes into play, in which the filters are held magnetically on the corresponding adapter rings. That is, further filters or even the replacement of the filters is then done in fractions of a second, so to speak. With the base ring, the lens is made fit for this system, so to speak, and you can then attach the filter accordingly, which is then held by the magnetic attraction. In addition, there is also a kind of locking mechanism with a slight turning on the white markings, so that the filter can no longer fall under any circumstances.

Here you can also combine several filters with each other and up to two filters I have not been able to detect any vignetting in the range up to 16 mm. For me, the most common filter is the variable Gaufilter, namely one with 1-5 aperture levels, which I use most often here.

Select set

Nisi offers different sets, for example either with fixed Gaufilters, with variable Gaufilters plus polar filters and so on. You have to look around which set suits you best. Such a set then comes with different adapter rings, usually 67, 77 and 82 mm, as well as the base filters of the respective set as well as with a front and a rear cap as well as a corresponding pocket,

Although the bag actually looks quite good and can store the filters safely, it is still not necessary with this system in my opinion, because the entire filter set can be accommodated in a kind of stack with the matching front and back covers also protected in the camera bag. You only have to figure out how to quickly loosen the filters from each other, because you usually put them in the bag in a locked state.

The disadvantages

As much as this system also works in practice, and allows the quick change of photos, two disadvantages must be mentioned. On the one hand, due to the use of the adapter ring, which is necessary to use the filters on it, neither the lens front covers nor the sun visors that are usually present.

As a further disadvantage, the set is relatively expensive. You sometimes get special offers in quotation marks, but there is still such a set around 300 €, and if you really want to use the set consistently, you still need different front covers. Simply to protect his lenses in the camera backpack, because the front covers, the two lenses were included, no longer fit. And they are already relatively expensive at just under 35 €.

Conclusion

The filter system has actually proven itself well after several months now, and I have purchased a pool filter separately because of my set, as well as an ND-1000 filter, which I need from time to time for long exposures in the day.

And I don’t want to measure it anymore today, i.e. I definitely don’t want to go back to the screw filters with corresponding step-down or step-up rings.
