Desview R705 7 inch touch screen monitor

After the FeelWorld FA6+, I got the T7 Plus with a 7-inch diagonal, but without touch operation. Operating the buttons was a bit choppy.

Introduction

I used the T7 Plus primarily when I record my YouTube videos and to be able to better assess the video image and exposure. False color is primarily used for this, and other settings are certainly useful too.

Nevertheless, the desire for a touch screen was great, as a monitor like this is simply easier to use instead of having to navigate through menus.

But above all, the size of 7 inches makes up for a lot when you compare it to the usual 5-5.5 inch devices.

I recorded a short video about my selection:

Selection

If you look around for 7-inch monitors, various models from Feelworld, DEsview or Lilliput come into question. However, these usually have a very good brightness of 1000-2000 nits, but are also correspondingly more expensive.

For outdoor use, however, I have the Blackmagic Videoassist, which is smaller but has the appropriate brightness.

I only need the monitor in the studio and the usual brightness is sufficient for me there.

I chose the Desview R705, a 7-inch touch monitor that costs less than €100.

Larger display only

If you only want an enlarged display of the monitor image, you can actually use any monitor via HDMI, such as the recently introduced Azorpa 15.6-inch monitor.

It may be a bit big to take with you, but an alternative might be an iPad or an iPhone with a USB-C connection. Then you only need a suitable USB cable and a very inexpensive capture card, some of which are available on Amazon for less than €10. They are only suitable for 1080p, but they are more than sufficient for the purpose required here.

The Desview R705

What can you expect from a 7 inch touch monitor in this price range? Certainly not the best material and workmanship quality.

A lot of accessories are included.

First of all, there are 2 HDMI cables, one mini and one micro. I can use the one with the mini connection for my Lumix S5. There is also a connection cable for V-mount batteries, a bag and a monitor mount for the camera’s accessory shoe. I replaced the monitor mount with the counterpart from Smallrig, or use the Smallrig Hawklock system.

Connections

On the back there is the usual connection for Sony NP-F compatible batteries, which are available in different sizes.

The monitor can also be operated with an appropriate power supply. There are of course HDMI IN and OUT and a USB connection for loading your own LUT onto the monitor. However, you will look in vain for other connections, e.g. for headphones.

Operation

Operating the monitor on the Lumix S5 is absolutely problem-free.

The monitor supports the functions that are already standard for such a monitor, such as zebras, false color, focus assist (with selectable colors) and other displays such as RGB parade, waveforms, etc.

In this respect, it offers all the functions that I need and also has 2 function keys on the top that can be freely assigned.

The quality is OK for the price and I am happy with it. With 450 nits according to the manufacturer, it is more than bright enough, at least for indoor use.

Conclusion

If I don’t discover anything negative, then this monitor as a 7-inch device with touch operation is really a price-performance winner with a price of under 100 euros.
