Last week review 18-2026
Weekly review 18-2026 and this week it was beautiful in summer, but especially at the beginning of the week still relatively cool 😉

This week’s article was about kit lenses based on the example from the LUMIX system. In the meantime, two kit lenses should be highlighted here. On the one hand the Lumix 18-40 mm, suitable for the Lumix S9, and also the 24-105 mm for the larger Lume cameras.
However, I started with the Lumix 20-60 mm on the Lumix S5, which was a rather unusual focal length range at the time. This focal length is relatively universal for my kind of photography, because with 20 mm you can also photograph architecture, cityscapes and so on quite well. And this focal length or perhaps slightly longer focal lengths also in the field of landscape photography are not wrong.

Despite all this, however, the most universal has turned out to be a proven focal length range, namely the 24-105 mm. That I would always prefer if I am only on the road with one lens, because it covers a really large area from medium wide angles to small telephoto and also covers the close range up to a 1:2 scale.
Regarding the optical quality, it should be noted that this is now at a good, high level and no longer has the character of what was said back then, “kitscherben” has, which were sold 10 years ago to the cameras.

Then there’s all the other news from Adobe, which released new features for both Photoshop and Lightroom and Lightroom Classic this week. However, they usually go over the stage, i.e. removing generative AI objects and so on, especially with Firefly. But also, of course, the support of the PSD format in Lightroom is worth mentioning. But for the normal photography and photo editing in quotation marks, if you leave out the AI tools, as expected, as already expressed years ago, not much is done anymore.
DJI has extended the MIC Mini with the Mic Mini 2 series, which is intended to succeed the well-known small microphone set. Technically, there are fewer innovations here, but the magnetic plates, with which the microphones can be attached to clothes, T-shirts and so on, now come with colorful designs,

Ugreen has a new version or an update of the Ugos operating system (1.15.0.120) , which was also installed these days for my DXP 4800+. Essential innovations are hardly to be expected, since I really only use the DXP 4800 as a NAS. And other functions such as Docker, photo albs and so on, use other tools that are also on other computers. It is remarkable that an AI tool is installed here, which obviously has no effect on my DXP 4800, as I cannot select models here. I assume that this is intended for the much more expensive IDX models, which also advertise with the slogan AI NAS.

And finally, Samyang has presented an autofocus lens for the L-mount in cooperation with Schneider-Kreznach, namely 14-24 mm f/2.8. This lens was already available via E-mount and is now also available for the L-mount. For these focal lengths and the light intensity of f/2.8, a filter thread of 77 mm is rather a bit more unusual, but that seems to fit. Nevertheless, the construction is relatively packed, so that it would really also fit, for example, a Sigma FP or of course, a Lumix S9, to cover the extreme wide-angle range.
All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you like the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.
