Last week review 36-2024

This week it was about proxy files both for Da Vinci Resolve and in the Lumix S5 II series after the firmware update. Proxy files are small proxy files that are taken instead of the partially huge original files in the respective editing software.

This reduces the load on the computer and you can edit the Opengate clips from the S5 II x even on hardware without a dedicated graphics card, such as the Asrock X300.

Nevertheless, of course, you have to invest time in Da Vinci Resolve generating the proxy files first. Depending on the resolution and length of the clips and the hardware used, this can sometimes take a relatively long time. But in the meantime I go there and first create proxy files for all clips, which are stored in a subfolder of the respective project.

Depending on the setting, the new options in the Lumix S5 II x benefit, which generates corresponding proxy files with low resolution and significantly reduced bitrate directly in the camera. However, this is only possible with clips up to max. 4K resolution high and unfortunately not for the Opengate format.

Last week review 36-2024Then there was a client update to Lightroom Classic, which brings us to version 13.5.1. You can find no information about this on the homepage of Adobe. The update only mentioned improved stability and support for newer lenses.

And the action of Skylum, which has now started a discount campaign again, runs until 09.09 . For example, you get the Lifetime license from Luminar NEO for €59.00 instead of €79.00 and only €59.00 for the annual subscription. If you order via this link with code TUXOCHE you even get another 10%.

This gives you a program with which the entire RAW workflow can be handled at a very high level. Of course, you can also use Luminar NEO as a plugin for Lightroom or Photoshop.

All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you like the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.

ciao tuxoche
