Weekly review 25-2024 and it’s getting warmer, but somehow summer isn’t really getting going this year 😉

Last week review 25-2024

This week the question was whether the Lumix S5, the predecessor model of the S5 II and S5 IIx, is still a good camera in 2024. I haven’t sold mine and there’s nothing wrong with the camera, especially in the photo area. You have to admit that the AF isn’t really convincing in the video area and I prefer the S5 IIx because its video AF is simply more reliable.

Despite all the innovations, the Lumix S5 also has a lot to offer, especially when you consider the price. Because there’s hardly a brand new full-format camera with the features for under €1,000. And in the mFT area, I’ve found that the Lumix lenses are also excellent.

So if you are looking for a good camera with good features in both the photo and video areas in 2024, you will find it in the Lumix S5, and if you want to focus more on video later, you can do that with the Luix S5 II(x).

DxO is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary and is offering a 20% discount on its products. In addition to the Nik Collection version 7, this includes Photolab and the denoising software PureRaw.

You can save a lot of money there, even if you only want to use PureRAW for denoising, for example, but otherwise use a different RAW converter.

Last week review 25-2024The battle for advertising continues. Youtube, for example, is getting more and more annoying because sometimes there are 2 ad blocks right at the beginning and sometimes, depending on the length of the video, ads are also displayed in between. Now Youtube is probably going the route of integrating ads directly into the streams, making it more difficult to enjoy the video without ads even with ad blockers. They probably want to push more and more users into paid subscriptions.

This week Nikon announced the Nikon Z6 III and the Z7 III, which you can pre-order now. 6K RAW recording and 120 frames per second in 4K are attractive. At first glance, the almost €3,000 seemed justified.

It remains to be seen what features this and the Z7 III offer and how it performs in practice.

All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you like the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.

ciao tuxoche
