Last week review 40-2026

This week was very nice, but you can notice the autumn quite clearly, especially at night. Then it somehow smells like autumn 😉

This week’s article was mainly about the new server that I had to assemble due to a hardware error on the motherboard of the old error.

The choice of the motherboard was somewhat limited because of the high prices, as I could continue to use my old RAM DDR 4 and I also wanted to use an ATX-capable motherboard. The choice finally fell on the MSI board and this time I gave an AMD Ryzen another chance.

Such more important, but this time was also a new case, including a new power supply, since the old one has been running for more than eleven years. The choice fell on the JonoN5 housing, which is built like a cube, but is still relatively massive. The case offers space for up to twelve hard drives, making it really ideal for a DIY NAS.

In the meantime I also have nine hard drives in it. I took over the ZFS rate from Malten server and also built a new Red next to the Red Z1 of the old server, namely with Snap, which contains the four terabyte plates from the old wet. These are used with Snap for all data that practically little or practically never change, because then the parity does not necessarily always have to be calculated and written immediately. The power consumption is on average at just under 60 W, which I find appropriate for such a structure and even with NAS, if many disks are running, especially with a backup or copy job.

The four hard disks are usually used, then the value is hardly over 85 W. I myself am quite satisfied with the part, even after half a year of running time. And it has now really proven itself in practice.

According to the Experten should not end all the time, even in 2027. One is already noting that everything that has to do with memory, so actually the REM-NVME, SSD and so on is getting more and more expensive. As a comparison, I can mention that the RTX 5080, which I bought two and a half months ago, has now climbed to almost 1700 euros in the meantime, a price increase that is hardly to understand. But let’s wait and see what the future brings.

Then I still have at the Rollei anniversary days, there was a discount and there I ordered the Vildrox 14mm F4.0 for the L-mount, which is now very, very much talked about lately, as an inexpensive ultra-wide-angle lens. I will be surprised how good the quality of this lens is. You can hear there different from fantastic to in the corners not quite so well, which would not be verbal at the price. I’ll just take it off and will tell you further here at this point.
