Weekly review 29-2026 and the weather was almost mixed in some places this week for the end of July, almost relatively cool 😉

This week’s post was about the e-mail-archiving. The focus was on a comparison of the two open source solutions OpenArchiver and MailArchiver. Both systems can be hosted by yourself and installed via Docker on any Linux system.

Both have in common that they can read e-mail mailboxes. In addition, OpenArchive can also include other sources, including Microsoft 365. In terms of resource consumption, Mail Archiver is the somewhat more economical solution, as only two containers are needed here: the actual e-mail archive and the associated PostgreSQL database.

OpenArchiver also installs Apache Tika. This allows not only the e-mails themselves, but also their attachments to be indexed and searched. Another significant difference is that Mail Archiver stores the archived e-mails completely in a PostgreSQL database. OpenArchive, on the other hand, stores the e-mails including the attachments directly in the file system and uses the database mainly for indexing and administration. The latter could be advantageous for a later change to another system.

Nevertheless, due to the easier handling and because only a few people are affected, I will most likely choose Mail Archiver. The system already offers some features that OpenArchive does not currently have, such as two-factor authentication. It’s also easier for users with limited permissions to set up, so they can manage their email accounts themselves.

This week, Sony also introduced the new FX5 video camera . It has about the dimensions of the Sony FX3, but is designed as a pure cinema camera and this time also supports RAW and open gate recordings. With a price of just under 5,000 euros, however, it already moves in the upper class.

Despite the high price, there are some criticisms of the service. For example, when changing the recording format, such as the resolution or frame rate, the camera must be partially restarted. Other aspects of the operation should not yet be optimally implemented. For this purpose, the camera has a newly developed sensor that offers not only two, but three basic ISO values. This should help to record particularly clear and low-noise videos. However, it should be noted that the Sony FX5 does not currently allow internal recording despite its price.

Another big topic this week was artificial intelligence. A test initiated by OpenAI, in which an AI allegedly breaks out of a secure environment independently and is said to have attacked another company caused headlines. How much truth actually lies behind these reports is currently difficult to understand. Nevertheless, such an incident is inevitably reminiscent of scenarios known from the Terminator movies.

These reports have again security concerns triggered. Many fear that with increasingly powerful AI models such as ChatGPT, Claude and other technologies, software will come on the market, whose risks are currently difficult to estimate.

In the same direction, another Report: A pastor has sued OpenAI because, according to his presentation, ChatGPT is said to have given advice that would have led to a life-threatening situation. Although it is generally known that AI models can make mistakes or create hallucinations in which they freely invent facts, such a case nevertheless raises considerable questions about responsibility.

Another current discussion concerns copyright. Who owns the rights to an image created by an AI? The one who created the prompt, or possibly even the AI itself? If the latter were legally recognized, the copyrights could ultimately go to the developers of the respective AI models. That’s why I had this picture above created. This question also urgently needs legal clarification and possibly new legal regulations.
