Last week review 24-2026
Weekly review 24-2026 and this week the heat started towards the end of the week and next week it should be really hot ;-(

This week it was about RapidRAW, which has undergone a pleasing development since its publication almost a year ago. The software is now available in version 1.5.7, is still Open Source and is available for Windows, macOS and Linux.
Among the most important innovations is the possibility of can change the language of the application to German and other languages. In addition, there is no longer a restriction to a single base folder. Instead, several folders can now be integrated, making images easier to manage, sift, and edit.

Since my last review last year, other functions have also been added. This includes, for example, the ability to create virtual albums and organize photos in them. Overall, these are very positive developments. Particularly commendable is the work of the developer from Switzerland, who regularly publishes new functions, bug fixes and improvements on his blog – about every 14 days.
RapidRAW is therefore clearly on the right track.
Compared to Lightroom, however, I had a small problem with a particularly demanding photo. The possibilities of a RAW image, especially when restoring shadows and highlights, could not be fully exploited in RapidRAW. Lightroom achieved visibly better results here. This point may be improved in a future version.

Also new preverated was Exire Foto 2027, an advanced version of photo management with AI-supported search.
In contrast to previous versions, Exire Foto no longer works exclusively as a plugin, but also as an independent application. This should make the software particularly interesting for users who use various RAW converters or image editing programs and want to catalog both photos and video clips.
Exire Foto is currently offered at a discounted introductory price of 199 euros. Interested parties should take a closer look at the software or download the available trial version.
Also Viltrox, previously known mainly for its lenses for the Nikon-Z system, has presented an interesting new product .

This is a 28mm f/4.5 pancake lens with autofocus that is offered ipin the US for only 99 US$. The final price in Germany has not yet been determined, but should also be in the order of about 100 euros.
The lens is characterized above all by its extraordinary compactness and is therefore ideal for small cameras. A particularly suitable partner would be, for example, the Lumix S9, which I have already presented in detail.

Adobe announces new features for Lightroom and PhotoshopAdobe has also announced new features for Photoshop and Lightroom. Currently, however, it is still an announcement; the corresponding desktop updates for macOS and Windows are not yet available. The planned improvements to the so-called Culling function are particularly interesting. This supports photographers in image selection by automatically detecting whether, for example, the eyes are in focus or whether an image has been shaky.
Especially for larger portrait, wedding or event shoots, this feature can significantly speed up and simplify the selection of the best shots.
Finally, there is News about OpenMediaVault. The NAS software is now available in version 8.4.0.I have already installed the update. The innovations include, among others:
- Support for Wi-Fi interfaces on Raspberry Pi systems
- Storage stack update to version 3008
- Various improvements and bug fixes
This allows OpenMediaVault to successfully continue its continuous development.
All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you like the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.
