Last week review 23-2026

Weekly review 23-2026 and this week the weather remains rather rainy and mixed, not at all like a June ;-(

Weekly review 23-2026

This week there were of course two topics: On the one hand, the new Photo Page in DaVinci Resolve 21, which was presented last week by Blackmagic Design. This photo page is already hailed by many as an attack on Lightroom, and some even say it could replace Lightroom.

However, Blackmagic Design has done a good job for the first version of the RAW development in DaVinci Resolve, but there are still some problems. On the one hand, the images must be loaded into the current project. On the other hand, importing a Lightroom catalog takes a very long time. In addition, apart from the information about the location of the images, no other parameters are taken over. An exception may be an existing image cropping.

As a further problem, I noticed that the resolution of an image exported with DaVinci Resolve is slightly lower compared to the same image from Lightroom. I tested this with 16-bit files. The difference is not very big, but still clearly noticeable. Therefore, the question arises to what extent the RAW development in DaVinci Resolve is still at the beginning of its development.

Of course, there was also the developer conference from Apple this week. Various innovations and outlooks on iOS 27 and macOS 27 were presented there. Personally, I had hoped that – as some leaks had claimed – a Mac mini with an M5 processor would be presented. Unfortunately, this was not the case. I would be interested in such a device, especially since Apple has now removed the smallest version of the Mac mini M4 from the range and only offers variants with 512 GB SSD storage.

But most are sure that the WDDC2026 was very short and many expected or had hoped for more.

Also in the NAS area there is news. Ugreen has introduced two new NAS devices: the DXP2300 and the DXP4800 GT. Externally, the housings – apart from small color differences – hardly differ from the previous models. Inside, however, a lot has happened.

Both devices are powered by an AMD Ryzen Embedded R2514, which is no longer the youngest, but at least has four cores and eight threads. In addition, both models are equipped with a 10-gigabit network connection. The larger variant, the DXP4800 GT, even offers two of them.

In addition, the devices can be upgraded to up to 64 GB of DDR4 memory. However, given the current storage prices, I think this is a bit exaggerated. For 64 GB of RAM you currently have to invest a small fortune. This is actually only worthwhile if the device is used intensively – for example not only as a NAS, but also as a home server including Docker containers.

Last but not least, I would like to draw your attention to the summer sale of Skylum. Here you can find licenses from Luminar Desktop or the Max license at a lower price. The last version 1.27 has brought, among other things, new functions, e.g. for bokeh and also the portrait photography. You can now get, for example, a desktop license for 99,– € or the Max Liznbez, which also includes the mobile app for 135,– €. Of course you can also download a trial version to try out the program first. But there are also some offers for existing customers. So take a look. You can order via this link.

All in all, another very eventful week.  I hope you like the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.

ciao tuxoche
