Weekly review 16-2026 and spring is coming everywhere, even if in some places the weather is hardly early 😉

IThis week’s article was about archiving video recordings, especially those published on YouTube. Here, some gigabytes of data are archived, although you can no longer change the videos on YouTube afterwards. Against this background, it should be possible to save the video clips again with a lower resolution or with a low bit rate in order to save space for the individual projects.

This has also happened, because in the meantime I have gained corresponding experience with FFMepg and can thus reduce the videos by a factor of 0.25 and sometimes even smaller, depending on the set compression or quality level. This means that the total archive, which had around 4.1 terabytes so far, could be reduced to just over 980 GB. FFMpeg has the advantage that the original quality of the video in the sense of subsampling or color depth is maintained without further parameters and only the size reduction takes place via a reduction in the bit rate.

Regarding the hardware, the conversion was carried out with the Raxda X4, a full-fledged X86 SBC equipped with an N100. With this unit you can not run the videos the fastest, but the most effective, because this computer is very energy-efficient and it does not matter if you have to run the computer for 2 days for this task.

Then, of course, there is the Windows 11 Patch Day, like every month, where Microsoft releases the most important updates for the Windows operating system. Here, among others, the versions 25H2 and 24H2 North are published. On the computer base, over 165 vulnerabilities located on the ZVE lists are corrected simultaneously. The exchange of the certificates for the so-called Secure Boot will also continue.

Then Blackmagic Design released the beta version of version 21 of DaVinci Resolve. They take many smaller and sometimes larger extensions, especially of course in the AI area. For video editing or video editing, a photo page has been implemented this time, which some already claim to be the Lightroom killer. According to initial information, however, initially only the roll files of Sony, Canon and Nikon are supported, so that I can’t try anything here with my Lumix cameras at this point. Admittedly, I will also install the beta on another computer. And let’s see what’s new about this hype.

Finally, there is news in the area of Gopro, namely one of the popular action camps will be equipped with a one-inch sensor and additionally with an MFT mount, so that it is also possible to use interchangeable lenses for various systems in these action games.

Finally, a new version of Lightroom was released last week, namely version 15.3, since this is already the third release of a new release this year, new features were really not to be expected here. There are some improvements in the use of Firefly as well as the executions, for example, the AI smoke-in functions in the background, so that Lightroom can still be operated, the standard with new versions, so the support of newer, objective or cameras is also self-evidenth
