Last week review 21-2026
This week was the first really very warm, not to say hot week and already at the end of May. But next week it should be a little more pleasant again 😉

This week was mainly characterized by the new version of the Panasonic LUMIX Lab App, which was introduced in version 3.0. For the first time, this version offers the option to edit RAW files directly in the app. Previously, it was only possible to download the RAW files, but not to edit them within the app.
This function was previously reserved for JPEG and HEIF files. However, a first trial has shown that the editing in the app, especially with the RAW file formats, offers considerably less leeway than in Lightroom, for example. This applies, for example, to restoring the brightest lights or darkest shadows. However, since we are still at the beginning with version 3.0, it remains to be seen whether Panasonic will improve this to a significant extent.

At the same time, I have to ask the question at the Lumix S9 by Panasonic, why, in contrast to other cameras such as the S1R, no alternative format like ProRes was implemented in addition to JPEG and HEIF by a firmware update. Especially the S9, as a content creator camera, would benefit from such a format, since many of the downloadable LUTs are based on the vlog look, which is widespread in the video sector. A 10-bit 4:2:2 format would certainly be much better than a corresponding JPEG.

Last week there was also news in the WordPress area: the Update on WordPress 7.0. I have now done this update on all three of my blogs and I must say that it went smoothly in itself. Nevertheless, I strongly recommend that you make a backup of your data before such an update. Whether you need a central interface for important AI functions such as ChatGPT, Gemini AI or Antropic for a simple blog remains to be seen. On the other hand, it would make sense to centralize this connection so that not every plugin has to implement such a connection themselves.

There was also news in the OpenMediaVault area: Two new versions were introduced or dated, namely version 8.3.0 and version 8.1.0. The latter has updated in particular the scripts associated with RAID, i.e. the MD-Device. Here, too, the update ran smoothly and without any problems.

Last but not least, it should be mentioned that until the beginning of June the programs of AIArty the Image Enhancer, the Video Enhancer as well as the Matting Tool—at a particularly reasonable price. With my code, which can be used when purchasing, you also get a discount of 5 euros. I have already put the three programs in separate articles resp. Videos and am of the opinion that the price for the lifetime license is really very reasonable depending on the intended use.
All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you like the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.
