Weekly review 40-2024 and autumn has come with giant steps and the first night frost. Then the dark season comes again 😉

Last week review 40-2024

The vacation is (unfortunately) over and the first article after my vacation was about the Godox SL100D video light, which I bought as a supplement to the Godox SL60W I already had. The Godox was on offer quite cheaply before my vacation, so I didn’t want to wait any longer.

It replaces the Godox Sl60W that I have been using here up until now in my softbox. You can always use some light reserves here, especially since a softbox with a diameter of 90cm also absorbs light. What bothers me a little is the fact that the previous remote controls no longer work, so you’ll probably have to buy the successor. As a compensation, so to speak, the lighting can be controlled via Bluetooth with a corresponding app on your cell phone. But then you have to use different systems when using the lights and that doesn’t work so well.

Nevertheless, I am very happy with the light.

Last week review 40-2024I feel like data protection scandals are piling up and Windows is getting more and more annoying with the obligation to use the cloud and CoPilot, which supposedly takes a screenshot of what we are doing every 5 seconds, is not suitable for increasing trust either. That is why I have recently started using Linux more and more. I did that before, but because of Lightroom I switched to Windows, at least as a desktop operating system.

Last week review 40-2024

I have been hosting my Nextcloud myself for a long time and there is also a desktop client for Linux that is easy to set up. At the same time, however, there is a documented recommendation not to mix operating systems when accessing the Nextcloud folders, although this should not be a problem with a dual boot.

In order not to save the Nextcloud folders twice locally (once Windows, once Linux), I tried tapping into the Nextcloud instance via WebDav. Setting it up on Windows is relatively easy. Actually, Linux works too, but here the password/username has to be stored in a file ~/.davfs/secrets. Regardless of the question of security, if I store such information in plain text, accessing the Nextcloud with WebdaV has proven to be slow, painfully slow. Caching doesn’t change that, it is de facto unusable, so I haven’t made any further attempts, not even under MacOS.

All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you like the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.

ciao tuxoche
