Last week review 06-2025
|Weekly review 06-2025 and this week it was a cold week, temperatures in the minus range, which is rather unusual for this area 😉
This week’s post was about the field monitor from Viltrox, which I bought as a replacement for the Desview R705. The main reason for the exchange was the fact that I needed a brighter monitor for outdoor use, because although the Desview has a very good price-performance ratio, it is not very suitable for outdoor use.
The monitor itself is the only one so far that comes with a sturdy hard case in which you can store the monitor, all cables and even a battery. In addition, this monitor, like other Viltrox models, has a sunshade that can be folded up and thus does not get in the way.
Of course, the monitor can handle the usual displays such as focus assist, zebras or false color and can display RGB or vectorscopes, so it leaves nothing to be desired. The main argument is the maximum brightness of 2,000 nits. Overall, a recommended field monitor.
When editing my next YouTube video, I fell victim to a bit of a glitch in Da Vinci Resolve. The software offers the option of a timeline backup, which saves the state of a timeline every 10 minutes, for example. This means that in the event of a program crash, which does happen from time to time, you lose a maximum of 10 minutes.
All you have to do is specify the directory in which these backups should be saved. Recently, however, I have changed a number of directory structures to enable smooth switching between Windows, MacOS and Linux. For every directory that is not present, such as for Capture or…, the missing directory is acknowledged with an appropriate error message when DaVinci Resolve starts. Except in the case of timeline backups. If the specified directory does not exist or is not accessible, there is no error message but also no backups 🙁
All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you like the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.
