Last week review 05-2025

Weekly review 05-2025 and last week was once again much too warm, with temperatures in the double digits 😉

Last week review 05-2025 This week was about archiving video material, especially the clips that I record for my YouTube channel. These are usually never needed again because, for example, you can’t upload a correction video to YouTube to replace the old one. Over time, a lot of material accumulates that takes up a considerable amount of hard drive space. With Handbrake, however, you can sometimes make these videos considerably smaller without the quality of the video suffering significantly. I used Handbrake here to make the right settings via the GUI and, above all, to test the quality parameters. With the right parameters, the process can then be started via the command line version. The results with the different clips and the different encoders were revealing, especially with Quicksync and NVEnc. The latter is hardly suitable for archiving because it creates quite large files. Please take another look at the table in the article. Last week review 05-2025

The most effective was the small Raxda X4 Mini PC with its Intel N100 CPU, which has Quicksync. The conversion takes longer here, but despite everything it uses the least energy and even processes the Opengate format of the Lumix S5 IIx. Last week review 05-2025 You may remember that in the weekly review 50/2024 it was reported that my external drive, a Sandisk Portable, had stopped working after almost exactly 2 years. So I could no longer record videos with the Blackmagic Video Assist. A few days ago a large electronics store had the Samsung T7 in the 1 TB version on offer very cheaply and of course I got a replacement. I hope that the Samsung T7 will now last longer than just 2 years. All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you like the articles and look forward to your questions and comments. ciao tuxoche
