Last week review 24-2024
|Looking back 24-2024 and this week the weather is just mixed and much too cool for the time of year 😉
This week it was about the additional protection that systems like Crowdsec offer when you install it directly on the firewall. I already had Crowdsec running on my Proxmox server. But there is also a plugin for Crowdsec to install it directly on OPNSense.
Crowdsec is roughly like fail2ban, which evaluates log files and then blocks unsuccessful attempts to log in for a certain period of time or even permanently via the packet filter of the respective system. Scenarios are used for this, which also look at and evaluate the log files depending on the services installed. Attacks, or rather attack scenarios, are evaluated via a central API and so a certain IP can be blocked per se for access even though it has not attacked the system in question.
Depending on the system, Crowdsec automatically installs lists for Linux, NGInx, etc. so that it can evaluate the relevant scenarios and possibly block IOP addresses that have been noticed in the past. I had a few attacks immediately after installation.
WordPress was then automatically updated to version 6.5.4. This is a minor maintenance version. I took this update as an opportunity to check the installed plugins to see if there were any updates available. Plugins are not updated automatically. And there were a few updates that I then installed at the same time.
I also cleaned up and optimized the database and saved a lot of space, as this also removes various versions of articles that have not been published..
Then a discussion arises because Adobe has changed the terms of use for its products such as Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere and others. According to this, users should receive a worldwide, non-exclusive license to the images or material for the creation of derived content. Otherwise the cloud programs would no longer be usable. This is of course a huge blow for photographers as well as other content creators. Let’s see how this develops. In my opinion, if Adobe were to say clearly that it’s only about training AI, then we could talk about it, but practically any change to the work goes too far.
All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you like the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.
