Last week review 09-2025

Weekly review 09 2025 and this week it will be warmer in some areas, but massively rainier again ;-(

Last week review 09-2025This week my article was about the upgrade for the MacBook Air, after it was just over three years old. This upgrade consisted of a MacBook Pro with the M4 pro processor. 512 GB SSD and 24 GB RAM. This variant was around €400 cheaper than Apple at the time of purchase, so I snapped it up.

From the first impression, the MacBook Pro is of course excellently made and also has more ports, for example three Thunderbolt ports, an HDMI port, a headphone or headset connection and a card reader.

But this MacBook Pro is also impressive in terms of performance, because it comes at least close to the large desktop PC. For example, if you render videos with Da Vinci Resolve. Here a certain video was rendered on the PC in 4 minutes 36, while it only took 6 minutes on the MacBook Pro. And of course you have to take into account that this is a laptop.

Last week review 09-2025But the migration from the MacBook Air to the new system also went smoothly thanks to the migration assistant, so that after about 1 hour 20 both programs and data were transferred to the new MacBook Pro. And I am convinced that I made the right choice with the M4 Pro processor and the extra RAM.

I will certainly have to get used to this new performance class now and will report on my experiences setting up the MacBook Pro at a later date.

Last week review 09-2025This week Panasonic released the new Lumix S1R Mark II, which comes with a 44.3 megapixel sensor and can reach a maximum of 40 frames per second and, relatively important for films, also has an 8K video slot. The size is said to be based on the size of the Lumix S. 52 or S52 Mark X and if I have read the various tests correctly, this time this more expensive camera has a protective curtain for the transmitter sensor, similar to the solution used on Sony or Kernen models.

Last week review 09-2025

Sigma has two new products at once: the new 300-600 mm telephoto zoom lens with F4.0. At around $6000, it costs a lot, but in relation to the focal length range and especially the open aperture of F4.0, it is still worth the money.

Sigmar has also introduced the Sigma BF, a new full-frame camera that is kept relatively plain in white and of course uses the L-mount for the lenses. A number of Sigma’s lenses, especially the wide ones, will soon be available in silver.

All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you like the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.
