Last week review 50-2024
|We are approaching the end of 2024 and it is getting colder 😉
This week it was about an IT topic again, namely a note app, and that is also important for photographers. After a few trials, I ended up with Joplin and have been using this app for about 3 years via a connection to my Nextcloud, which works very well. Especially since the cloud is accessible on the Internet anyway and offers good user management, this is probably a very common use.
Joplin also offers the advantage of offering corresponding programs for the desktop operating system but also of course for Android and iOS. This means that you can manage your notes on any device and on the fly.
In the article, however, I also presented the options, because it doesn’t always have to be Nextcloud. Joplin itself offers a corresponding server, which is still in beta stage. For this reason and especially because of the lack of 2FA, I would currently make it accessible from the Internet. But Joplin also has other options like Onedrive, Dropbox etc., so there should be something for every application.
A few days ago I wanted to record a short video clip. I also have a mount with a Sandisk SSD for the Blackmagic Videoassist 12 G, so that I can record directly onto the SSD. That makes it easier because you don’t have to copy the video clips from the SD card, you can work directly on the SSD.
But this time the Sandisk was more noisy. At first I thought it was a problem with the recorder, but when the SSD was no longer recognized by Windows or the MacBook, the result was clear. And that was 10 days after the 2-year warranty had expired, a scoundrel who thinks evil of this. Or is there a chip in there that… 😉
Also last week my Windows installation reported that Windows had reached the end of its service life and that I should download a newer version. I’m on version 23H2 and that shouldn’t be too old.
But it seems to be a Windows bug that has been known since November but hasn’t been fixed yet. So I’ll just leave it as it is for now and wait to see if the error disappears on the next patch day.
And there is a kind of Advent calendar from Skylum. Here you can buy Luminar NEO or other software at a cheaper price if you follow the link and enter the code Tuxoche. The promotion runs until December 25th and behind each door there is a different surprise waiting for you.
All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you like the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.
