Weekly review 29-2024 and this week, especially towards the weekend, it got really hot 🙁

This week was about the Lumix S5 IIx, which complements the Lumix S5 for me. At first glance, the camera differs only minimally from its predecessor when you put them side by side. But then, in addition to the gray lettering and labels on the buttons, the ventilation slots above the bayonet are particularly noticeable.

This brings us to the main improvements, which can be found primarily in the video area. The camera can record various recording formats in All-Intra with considerably higher bit rates. In addition, there is the Opengate format with its 6K resolution and the option to record in ProRes.

And in contrast to the Lumix S5, you no longer need an external recorder (unless for BRAW), because the camera can also save the clips directly to an SSD. There are options that can be very useful for filming. I find the Opengate option particularly useful for my YouTube video clips. helpful because you then have more resolution and you can play around with the image section later when editing.

Almost the most important thing is the fact that Panasonic has now caught up with the AF, especially when you are filming alone you are dependent on a functioning autofocus. Overall, the S5 IIx is a successful further development of the S5.

Then WordPress released version 6.6. There were some changes, for example more fonts and colors can now be selected. The most important new feature, however, is that you now have a rollback for plugins. If a plugin doesn’t work, you have the option of going back to the previous version. This is a really useful addition in connection with the automatic updates, because there can always be cases where a plugin is not compatible with the WordPress version or problems arise from the interaction of several plugins.

And then of course there was Amazon’s Prime Day, or actually there were even 2 days on which certain items were offered at discounts for Prime members. So last year I bought the Vanguard tripod as part of such a promotion.

I bought a few items there, some to try out, but some because they had been on my wish list for a while and were now on sale at a good price. One of them was the Glorious Gaming Mouse, a wired mouse. It was wired because I’ve had a few problems with wireless devices recently and the mouse was just lagging behind or I needed several attempts to get into the BIOS when starting up a keyboard. The other reason is that my Logitech MX Master 3 is getting sticky, at least on the surface, and I hardly want to touch it anymore.

I don’t know yet whether I’ll use the option to assign macros to the different keys. And now on Prime Day it was a lot cheaper and I ordered it. I hope that my expectations are not disappointed.
