his week’s focus was on the EATON 3S 550 UPS, an uninterruptible power supply for my homelab. With a purchase price of under €100, the main goal was to be protected against unforeseen events.

A power outage can lead to inconsistencies in server operating systems, especially databases. These server operating systems store a lot of data in RAM, so in the event of a failure, data may be incomplete.

The sole purpose of a UPS is to ensure that connected systems can at least be shut down properly. And that’s exactly what the EATON does: it communicates via USB whether a power outage has occurred and then provides the necessary power from its battery.

This status can be queried via the USB interface using the Network UPS Tool, and, depending on the duration, the system can be shut down in an orderly manner. will be. The EATON has already passed the stress test.

Last week review 48-2025I had already set up a NAS with the UGreen DXP 4800+, which primarily houses my photos and videos and from which I edit my videos. At the time, I equipped this NAS with four 4TB hard drives, which came from my old NAS. I had increased the latter’s storage capacity to almost 32TB by upgrading to 16TB Exos hard drives.

Meanwhile, the RAID 5 on the UGreen NAS is practically full at 10.8TB. Therefore, I’ve now bought four 8TB hard drives so that I can expand this NAS to at least 24TB. At the moment, I’m just debating whether to set up the RAID completely from scratch or gradually replace the 4TB drives with the 8TB ones, thus increasing the RAID capacity.

Panasonic is known for regularly providing firmware updates for its Lumix cameras. Updates are being released that either fix bugs or equip the cameras with new features. Panasonic released updates for the Lumix S9 and S5 IIx this week and last week. These updates address some bugs and others enable the Lumix Flow app. For the Lumix S1R II, the updates also address the persistent overheating issue and, for example, make the MP4 Lite codec from the Lumix S9 available for these cameras as well.

All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you enjoyed the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.
