Last week review 46-2024
Weekly review 46-2024 and this week it was just wet and cold, but that’s just part of November 🙂
This week it was all about networks again, namely VLAN. These VLANs allow network traffic for different networks to be routed via a physical cable and a network connection. This makes it possible, for example, to have different networks (LAN, WLAN, guest or other networks) connected to a firewall that only has one physical network adapter.
Well, I used 2 adapters in the article because I am of the opinion that the Internet connection should be kept separate from other, internal networks. In order for the internal networks from the various devices to be forwarded to one port and to be correctly assigned there in the firewall, you need a managed switch, in my case a Zyksel GS1200-8.
This switch can tag incoming network traffic that is not usually tagged, i.e. provide it with the VLAN ID, and in this example then forward it to port 8. For the incoming port you can choose whether Proxmox takes care of the VLAN ID or OPNSense. I opted for the Proxmox route, i.e. set up virtual network adapters there that then look like physical ports to OPNSense. It works wonderfully and you can see that you don’t necessarily need firewall hardware with 4 or more ports.
Then a few days ago Camera RAW was updated and now comes to version 17.0.1. According to the description of the update, only newer cameras are supported, but there was no information about which camera it was.
WordPress has also been updated to version 6.7. However, this time there was no automatic update to the new version. Maybe it’s because of the many (smaller) new features, e.g. the editor or the Twenty Twenty-five theme. Since it wasn’t installed automatically, I’ll be updating my 3 blogs in the next few days. Then there will certainly be some plugin updates again.
And then there’s the update from Blackmagic for DaVinci Resolve to version 19.1. The list of new features mainly includes many small features that may not seem like earth-shattering innovations at first glance, but which can make life easier in everyday work. These include, for example, the fact that the resolution in the deliver page can refer to the resolution of the timeline when exporting, or that you can now monitor multiple audio sources for so-called ducking. I’ve downloaded the updates and have already updated DaVinci Resolve on my Linux Mint installations with makeresolvedb.
Finally, all the Black Friday offers are coming up again, including at Skylum. Luminar NEO is available from now until December 1st at a reduced price. You can get a 12-month subscription for €49 or a license for €79. And if you use the code Tuxoche when ordering, you’ll get an extra 10% discount.
All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you like the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.
