Last week Review 41-2025
Weekly review 41-2025 and this week it is almost the gray autumn weather, although it is not so cold yet 😉
First of all, the information to my readers that there was no weekly review last week because I had a bad cold, which is now slowly but surely disappearing.
This week, after a long time, it was once again about the topic of Focus bracketing or rather, with which software to edit and assemble the resulting photos. This time, however, in addition to my favorite software for this purpose Helicon Focus, Photoshop CC, Luminar NEO, Affinity Foto and ON1 Photo RAW also competed.
Helicon Focus remains here as specialized software at number 1, while Photoshop CC has also caught up and is also able to calculate such a focus series sensibly. The same applies here for Luminar NEO with the stacking module. However, in contrast to all other programs, the resolution of the finished image is slightly reduced. While Affinity Foto delivers quite good results, ON1 is unfortunately in last place. However, this is mainly due to the limitation to approx. 14 pictures that can be added together. Neither an exact number nor a reason for this limitation is documented.
If you want to try focus stacking, you can try your first attempts with Luminar NEO, Affinity Photo or Photoshop. If you want to go deeper, then a specialized software such as Helicon Focus or Zerene Stacker is certainly required.
And while we’ve already talked about Affinity Photo, something seems to be going on. Because on the website, the software manufacturer announces an event for the 30th. October. Under the motto that creative freedoms are on the way, you can register by e-mail to receive this information earlier (how much). Now there are of course wild speculations that there may only be a subscription model with this software or the Affinity Suite from 30.10.
But there could be a version 3 with appropriate AI support or both. So we will have to wait for 10/30.
