Last week review 10-2025

Weekly review 10-2025 and at the beginning of the week it was still quite cold, especially at night, but sunny all week 😉 good start to spring

Wochenrückblick 10-2025

This week was about additional checking of the (photo) backup with the help of Hashdeep. I save my photos as a backup on my NAS, but this NAS is also backed up daily to external hard drives in the ICY Box.

This way I always have several copies of my photos and video clips that I can access if necessary. With hashdeep, checksums are now created for all files in a subfolder for each year, which are then regularly compared with the saved files. This is to ensure that the files are not changed by bit tippers and thus cause corresponding damage.

The article presents a script that can both generate and verify the checksums generated by hashdeep. This may all seem exaggerated, but so far I haven’t lost any data thanks to my caution and have always been able to restore it.

Last week review 10-2025Last week review 10-2025And finally it was introduced, the MacBook Air with the M4 processor. Like its predecessor, the MacBook Air is available in 13 and 15 inches. And what’s new, as with other Mac models, is that 16 GB RAM is now standard – it was about time. But what has remained is the 256 GB SSD in the basic version. Well, I got by with this size with my MacBook Air, but 512 GB would be nice. And the M4 processor will certainly be an upgrade to my previous M1 processor.

Then there’s news from Adobe, because Photoshop is now available on the iPhone too. I downloaded it once and apart from the smaller screen, it offers similar options to its iPad counterpart. And, as is typical for mobile phones, the whole thing is only available in portrait format. We’ll see soon where the limits or possibilities lie here.

All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you like the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.
