Weekly review 03-2025 and this week we had really cold winter nights in our area with -6.1 ° C, but only 2 😉
This week we talked about a special lens for extreme macros, namely the AstrHori 2.8/25mm for image scales between 2:1 and 5:1. The image scales alone indicate that it is a special lens.
The price of the manual lens is low at around €250, because both the processing quality and the optical performance of the lens are good. Of course, stopping down by 1-max. 2 stops helps to improve this. But more than f 5.6 can lead to diffraction blur.
In any case, in my opinion, a focusing slide should be used, because otherwise you will have problems with these image scales to precisely determine the desired plane of focus. And you have to work very precisely, especially with focus stacking, because the sharpness range is very, very small at these image scales.
I now just have to learn all the intricacies of the Helicon Focus software, because at these image scales the software tends to generate a blur in automatic mode, even though you have an image where this plane is sharp.
And we have the first patch day of the new year, when Adobe closes critical gaps in Photoshop and Microsoft closes gaps in Windows and Office, including Hyper V. And the dangers are never-ending, because since the beginning of the year I have also noticed more and more attacks on my blogs with false logins.
Adobe has apparently introduced a new function in Adobe Photoshop as a private beta that allows several people to work together on an image. This could of course make work in advertising agencies and also in training courses much easier.
Finally, there are problems with some Sandisk memory cards in the Canon R5 Mark II, which then generate corrupt images. V60 cards with 64, 128 and 256 GB sizes are apparently affected. Neither Sandisk nor Canon have commented on where exactly the problem might lie.
