Last week review 43-2024

Weekly review 43-2024 and this week there were very nice and above all very warm autumn days 🙂

Last week review 43-2024

This week it was again about a mini PC with several network connections, a firewall appliance with which you can then install OPNSense, for example. For me it is important in that these devices almost always come directly from China, at least at affordable prices, and if necessary I cannot wait 14 days until I have a working firewall and internet.

After several unsuccessful attempts, this time it is again a device from KingNovy with an Intel N100 CPU but only 5 2.5 GBit ports, one less than my basic device. One network port less is not tragic, as I do not need a port permanently for the Draytek modem, for example.

The new device worked almost straight away after adjusting the /etc/network/interfaces due to the different order of the PCI devices and of course also passed a MemTest. The Intel 100 CPU is also a lot more powerful than the N5105 and on average only consumes 14-16 watts of power with all ports occupied.

I am happy with it and have kept the KingNovy with the N5105 as a reserve device, just in case.

Last week review 43-2024Adobe has now generally released the Lightroom connection to frame.io and this has therefore left the beta stage. With a C2C-capable camera, such as the Lumix S5 IIx, you can now send images directly to the Frame.io storage, from where it can then be synchronized with the Lightroom catalog.

In my opinion, the problem is the cost. There is a free version, but it only offers 2GB of storage, which might be enough to try out but not for serious use. The next level, however, offers 2TB, but Adobe wants $15/month for that, which would be more expensive than the Lightroom Cloud itself. On the other hand, users of the cloud with all programs, which then also costs €65/month, have access to the features of frame.io. An intermediate size might also be interesting for some photographers, e.g. wedding photographers, etc.

All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you like the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.
