Lats week review 50-2025
Weekly Review 50-2025: This week we had temperatures more reminiscent of early summer than December or the time just before Christmas 😉

This week’s article was about a lens, or rather a type of lens, that I actually have with every camera, whether Canon or Lumix. I’m talking about a 100mm macro lens, which can usually be used up to a 1:1 magnification ratio. This time was a little different, though, because I swapped the truly excellent Sigma 105mm f/2.8 DG DN Macro for the Lumix 100mm f/2.8 Macro.
The main reason wasn’t a quality issue with the Sigma, but rather its size and weight. The Lumix equivalent is significantly smaller and lighter than the Sigma, by almost 400 grams. And if you were to compare it to the Lumix 50mm f/1.8, you’d only be able to tell them apart because the macro lens is slightly longer.
In terms of quality, there’s absolutely nothing to criticize about the Lumix lens, and I could put together a small kit of prime lenses for my Lumix S9 for when I’m out and about. Specifically, the Sigma 24mm f/2.0, the 45mm f/2.8, and the 100mm f/2.8 macro.

The most exciting thing this week was certainly the situation with the popular open-source editor Notepad++, which I also use. Hackers apparently compromised the update function, so that malware was downloaded onto PCs along with a supposed update of the editor. This was likely due to a targeted attack on certain organizations. The developer has since replaced the certificate and released version 8.8.9, which allows the update version to be used again. However, you should install this new version manually if necessary to avoid running into these problems with an older version already installed on your PC. An alternative would be Winget, which is what I regularly do.
All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you enjoy the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.
