Last week review 46-2025
Weekly Review 46-2025: This week, there was certainly no sign of November – it was almost spring-like! 😉

This week, I revisited the UGreen NAS DXP 4800+, which I’ve been using here for almost six months as mass storage for my photos and videos. Of course, the UGOS system isn’t quite ready for prime time, but I’m always at odds with UGreen about why they had to mess up the underlying Debian system so badly.
It was only through a Reddit post that I learned the device’s BIOS has more to offer, and by making the changes listed there, the power consumption with four hard drives in idle mode drops below 20W.
During all this time, I only encountered one issue where the 2.5 Gbps network port wasn’t activated upon startup. I was able to fix this after receiving an ISO of the operating system from UGOS, which I used to flash the system. The system was flashed without altering the settings (RAID 5, cache, etc.).

Finally, a hard drive failed, and the system reported that the RAID 5 configuration was degraded. This highlights the biggest drawback of the UGOS system: there are no email notifications, and in such a case, it would have been extremely useful for the system to send an email notification. Unfortunately, this only happens in the user interface..

I have since tried backing up the UGOS NVMe drive as an image using Clonezilla, which was successful. For further testing, I bought a small 256GB NVMe drive, installed it, and restored the image to it. Booting from the larger NVMe drive also worked without any problems. This will allow me to try out alternative operating systems like TrueNAS, OpenMediaVault, etc., on the DXP 4800+ later. I’ve since tried backing up the UGOS NVMe drive as an image using Clonezilla, which worked.
And like almost all companies, Skylum is offering Luminar NEO at a particularly low price as part of their Black Friday promotion. You can currently snag the desktop perpetual license for €64.99 and get an additional discount with the code TUXOCHE via this link 😉 And Luminar NEO is now also available as an ecosystem for mobile devices, so you can edit your photos on your smartphone or tablet.
All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you enjoyed the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.
