Last week review 18-2025

Weekly review 18-2025 and it’s still very sunny, very warm, and above all, much too dry; we’re just missing rain 🙁

Last week review 18-2025

This week, I talked about the option of setting up the Openmediavault NAS with the ZFS file system. This file system is simply robust, allows file system snapshots, and can also be set up in various RAID configurations. This post was a byproduct of me wanting to test how well a ZFS pool can be exported to a pool using virtual machines.

The background is that I wanted to expand my pool. Setting it up isn’t particularly difficult with the OMV extras and the ZFS plugin for Openmediavault. You can set it up with the regular kernel, but I’m a fan of doing it with the Proxmox kernel because ZFS is integrated there anyway.

Once you’ve created the pool with Raid-Z1, you can share and publish folders on it in Openmediavault, making it available to systems on the network, for example, via Smaba.

Panasonic also released this week Two new full-frame cameras were introduced, which, together with the Lumix S1 R II, are practically housed Last week review 18-2025in the same housing. There’s also the very interesting 20-60mm focal length, now with an f/2.8. The Lumix S1 IIe and the S1 II both feature a 24-megapixel sensor. The S1 IIe is likely to be the same sensor as the Lumix S5 IIx. The S1 II uses a partially stacked sensor, which offers very short readout times and can therefore handle speeds of 70 frames per second, for example.

Both cameras are capable of 4K 60p and OpenGate 30p, optionally also Apple ProRes RAW, but the S1 II can also handle OpenGate at 60p, which is quite impressive. Prices are expected to be €2,800 for the S1 IIe and €3,500 for the S1 II, making it only €100 cheaper than the S1 II. S1 R II would be. However, the latter, with its 44 MP sensor, is more optimized for photography, which doesn’t mean it can’t also shoot decent video. I think I’d buy the S1 R II, as my focus is still more on photography.

All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you enjoy the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.

ciao tuxoche
