Last week review 11-2026
Weekly review 11-2026 and only at the beginning of the week the weather was nice, now at the end of the week it is just rainy and especially uncomfortable due to the quite strong wind 🙁
This week there was another topic of networking, this time specifically about a 10 gigabit switch so that I can also connect my Ugreen NAS DXP 4800 directly. The choice fell on the Ual switch, which has both 2.5 and two 10 gigabit ports and is available for €100. The quality of the switch may not be super special, but the performance of the switch in both iPerf tests and when writing or reading files directly via the NAS’s ten gigabit port did not cause any problems and produced read speeds in the order of 600 MB/second, which is a pretty good value for a RAID 5 with four hard drives.

Panasonic has released a number of firmware updates this week, particularly for the S1 series cameras, but also for the S5 II and S5 IIx. What is important here is the support of, among other things, the new microphone from Panasonic, namely the DMW-DMX1, which can record four channels, among other things, and of course now offers state-of-the-art 32-bit float. Was updated automatically.
The automatic update of WordPress ensured that it received a small update to version 6.9.2, which primarily closed some vulnerabilities, security gaps and so on. So far I have not found any incompatibility with any installed plugins in my installations, so in my opinion this update went smoothly.
Then I recently reported that my self-built server was causing a lot of difficulties, especially when booting. Among other things, an error message appears that comes from the mainboard, more precisely from the PCI interfaces. Although Linux still has a correctable error here, I don’t actually want to wait so long until that changes and what was previously a correctable error becomes an uncorrectable error.
I therefore decided to simply replace the housing, its power supply and other components, which are at least ten years old, with a new device and, among other things, got this mainboard from MSI. This mainboard in regular ATX format offers 6 SATA interfaces and, above all, it is operated with DDR4 RAM, so that at least given the current RAM prices I can use the RAM that is still in the old server. I will report on the further expansion steps and how the hardware turned out on this channel soon.
All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you enjoy the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.
