Last week review 07-2026
Weekly review 07-2026 and it’s still raining here in the area 🙁 Too bad for those who want to celebrate Carnival
Last week, we discussed the Lumix S1R II again, and especially its video capabilities. The camera offers many video formats and supports internal recording in ProRes and ProRes RAW, although not with the full sensor area. Standard SD cards aren’t sufficient for high bitrates, so CFexpress cards are required.
There are limitations when recording to an external SSD: For resolutions above C4K, a battery grip or a special dummy battery is necessary because the camera consumes a lot of power. Another issue is overheating, especially with 7.2K Open Gate. However, longer recording times are possible with external recording and adjusted thermal management. A firmware update (version 1.4, November 2025) significantly improved the overheating problems.
It’s also worth mentioning that Blackmagic Video Assist is now available. BRAW recording up to 8.1K is possible with the full sensor.

In conclusion, the Lumix S1R II is rated as a very strong hybrid camera for both photos (44 MP) and video (up to 8K), even if battery consumption remains relatively high.
Then, of course, we have Skylum’s current anniversary sale, where you can get a Luminar Neo perpetual license for €69.99, for example. Other packages are also available. It’s best to check out Skylum and download the package that best suits your workflow. And, of course, if you’re new there, you can also download a trial version.
Then, of course, we have Microsoft Patch Tuesday, during which several products, including the hypervisor and, of course, Microsoft Office, were patched. These patches apparently contained security vulnerabilities that even Microsoft itself rated as very high. So, you shouldn’t miss this patch and hope that Microsoft doesn’t, as usual, make things worse in some areas.
That would be particularly concerning if… Secure Boot will be reissued after 15 years.
All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you enjoyed the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.
