Last week review 42-2025
Weekly review 42-2025 and this week, it was very stormy for the Eden of the week, so autumn is here 🙁

his week, there were two articles because Skylum released its new EcoSystem towards the end of the week. But first, there was the new version of ON1 Photo RAW 2026.
This article specifically focused on masks, which, according to ON1, have been significantly improved and allow you to quickly mask and then modify image styles automatically.
However, ON1 has just as many difficulties with specific image parts, such as a bird, as other programs do.

Here, other image parts that are not part of the subject are masked, and parts that are part of the subject are removed. Both can be easily corrected with additional brush masks, which can be used to add or remove image parts.

The only thing is that the operation is not very intuitive, at least for me, because there are many ways to achieve the actual goal. For example, the masks have to be confirmed, and with the Quick Select option, you have to right-click to select, which is done with the to the selected image part.
Overall, the masks in ON1 Photo RAW work quite well, and I have the impression that it’s a bit faster.
The second new feature this week from Skylum was the Luminar Ecosystem 1.25, which covers the desktop, mobile app, web albums, and Spaces.
In addition to restoring old photos, the desktop app offers the Light Depth function, which allows you to select image parts based on distance. This is a feature that can be used to add more depth to a landscape image, for example.
While this function is really well implemented, in my opinion, these web albums could have been avoided, as there are plenty of alternatives online, including hosted albums via Nextcloud or Immich.
Nevertheless, you should check out the new version, because from now until December 1, 2025, there are substantial discounts on the desktop and the combination as part of a Black Friday (long Friday 🙂 from desktop and mobile app.

Panasonic released a number of updated apps and firmware updates for its full-frame Lumix cameras this week. New firmware updates are available for the S5 II, S5 IIx, S9, GH7, and G9 II.
This ensures compatibility with the Lumix Flow app and, along with some firmware updates for lenses, ensures that the focus ring can be assigned specific functions.
All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you enjoy the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.
