Weekly Review 27-2025 and this week, especially towards the weekend, it was hot again and still very overcast 😉

This week’s review was about the UGreen USB4/Thunderbolt 4 enclosure for an NVMe drive. At around €75, this enclosure is still relatively inexpensive, but its performance is impressive.

It fits all NVMe sizes from 2230 to the common 2280 NVMe, and the enclosure is actively cooled. I bought this enclosure primarily for my MacBook Pro to house the cache for DaVinci Resolve as well as the catalogs for Lightroom Classic.

Surprisingly, the enclosure, or rather the combination with the MacBook Pro, delivers significantly better read and write speeds if you don’t stick with an exFAT file system, but reformat the NVMe with an APFS file system. The combination then achieves read and write speeds of over 3,000 MB/sec. Bottom line, I’m satisfied with this combination, especially for its intended use.

Openmediavault has apparently updated its system to version 7.7.12. It’s probably a minor update because only locale and UI adjustments have been made.

AVM is also doing something, as the Fritzbox 7590 is also receiving a firmware update to version 8.20. The most important point is likely to be that the Fritzbox can switch to mobile networking if the internet connection fails, so that at least the most important services are still available. Of course, how much is still available then depends on the mobile provider. It hasn’t been displayed for me yet today, but I wouldn’t have much use for this feature since a Draytek modem is responsible for the internet connection.

If you have DuckDuckGo set as your search engine in your browser, AI images can be automatically filtered out of search results if you as a user choose. How reliable this recognition of AI-generated images ultimately is remains to be seen.
