Last week review 49-2025
Weekly Review 49-2025 and it’s still November, wet and cold, and just gray. But Christmas break is almost here and I’m looking forward to it 😉

This week I focused on adding the Lumix S9 to my camera gear. The Lumix S9 is very compact, especially with the 18-40mm lens, and a really affordable entry-level full-frame camera. Since it uses the same sensor and, more importantly, the same autofocus system as the Lumix S5 IIx, the Lumix S9 is a welcome addition as a second camera or even for B-rolling.
And yet, I took a lot of photos with the Lumix S9 on my vacation, and the quality, both in photos and videos, is simply excellent.
The fact that the camera doesn’t have a mechanical shutter isn’t much of a problem for me. I did have to get used to the fact that there’s no viewfinder, though. Even if you sometimes use a smartphone for photos or videos, the camera works well. For better handling and a more comfortable grip, I ordered and installed the SmallRig handle.
This week, WordPress released a new version, 6.9. It includes a ton of new features, such as command palettes, new blocks, drag and drop for content, and of course, performance improvements. So far, I’ve only updated one blog, but the others will certainly follow next week.
Blackmagic Design released DaVinci Resolve 20.3 this week, also for the iPad. With Macs featuring an M5 CPU, the software can now handle timelines up to 32K, whereas previously it was limited to 8K. There are also a few other minor improvements that many editors will surely appreciate.
geschätzt werden.

Sony released the long-awaited Alpha 7V this week. It still uses a 33 MP sensor, but this time, like the Lumix S1 II, it employs partial stacking, allowing for faster sensor readout speeds. This is also reflected in the maximum frame rate for RAW images, which is now [number] frames per second. The dynamic range is now said to be 16 stops, which is quite impressive. However, features like OpenGate or RAW video recording, as found in the Lumix S1 II, are not included.
But there are detailed improvements almost everywhere, including in the autofocus, compared to its predecessor, the Alpha 7 IV.

My UGreen NAS DXP 4800+ received a firmware update to version 1.11.0.53 this week. The installation went smoothly, but the improvements are minor. Unfortunately, an MTA like Postfix is still missing, because otherwise I have to log in to the NAS to receive any notifications.
I’m currently having notifications from my scripts, which essentially sync data to my DIY NAS using rsync, sent directly to my phone via Gotify.
It would also be nice if the underlying Debian system were updated to Trixie, but that’s not so relevant for me since I only use the NAS as a NAS and don’t expose any services to the internet.
All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you enjoyed the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.
