Last week review 16-2025
|Weekly review 16-2025 with a short week thanks to the holiday, but also much too warm and much too dry 🙁
This week, after my vacation, I talked about the new version of Luminar NEO 1.24, released by Skylum. The revised version includes, among other things, the ability to limit the size of the Luminar NEO cache and also delete it. Deleting it manually was already possible before, but it’s better that it’s handled in the app itself.
There’s also a new feature, the Auto Adjust Development, which gives an image a basic development, which can then serve as a basis for your own further editing.
Generally, this auto development is fine and perhaps gives beginners with their first RAW files some confidence, but this feature still has room for improvement. It only seems to pull down the highlights and increase the contrast.
Then there are the improvements to the depth of field in Atmosphere AI, which worked well for me in some examples. Export to DNG has also been added, but with the caveat that, unlike exporting to LRC, DNG does not contain any information about the processing.
Here, when exporting to Luminar, all sliders are set to zero, regardless of whether a contrast of 50% produces the same effect in Lightroom.
Leica’s 100th anniversary celebration is certainly worth mentioning. To mark this occasion, events are being held in various major cities where you can purchase a limited-edition Leica. This time it will likely be a limited-edition Leica M11, which will lighten your wallet by more than $10,000. The company has successfully done this on various other anniversaries as well.
Leitz fans will certainly find it worthwhile, and such cameras don’t become less valuable over time.
A new bug has apparently crept into Windows and affects the RDP function. According to this bug, the old password for an RDP connection should remain valid even if the password is changed. According to Golem, this is intentional, as the passwords are cached in case there is no internet access. A highly questionable practice if Microsoft wants to maintain this.
All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you enjoy the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.
