Weekly review 47-2024 and we really had snow here, but by the weekend it was all gone again 😉
This week the preview files in Lightroom Classic were a topic, how to set them up and how best to use them and what options you have here. The preview files are basically required by Lightroom, i.e. Lightroom cannot work without preview files. This is also the reason why the corresponding folder is created automatically when Lightroom is restarted.
In the catalog settings you basically have the option of specifying the size of the preview files and also when the 1 2.1 preview files should be deleted. New in version 14 of Lightroom is now the option of limiting the maximum space that this directory can take up. This is a really useful setting, especially for laptops, for example.
Since Lightroom Classic cannot work without these preview files, you can consider whether to include these files in the backup, especially with larger directories. In my case it is 28 GB, so it could be worth it. I therefore back up this directory to another computer using Syncthing.
Then there was an update of Photoshop to version 26.1, which offers a context-related task bar and other top-notch options, among other things. More information is available here at Adobe.
And then, of course, Black Friday is approaching and although it’s not really that far yet, some retailers are already offering corresponding discounts. So I jumped at the chance and got an extension for my Lightroom photo subscription from Computeruniverse. The offer has since disappeared, though. But 68.50 for a 1-year prepaid photo subscription, you can’t complain anymore, because that makes 5.70 €/month for Lightroom and Photoshop.
And finally, this week or next week is Black Friday week, where retailers are tripping over themselves with offers.
