Last week review 05-2026
Weekly review 05-2026 and the cold, dreary weather is starting to get me down 🙁

his week, in Part 1, I reported on my dream camera, the Lumix S1R II, which I was able to purchase quite cheaply along with the Lumix 4.0/24-105mm lens as part of a Panasonic anniversary celebration. It just occurred to me that I now own three kit lenses: the 20-60mm from my Lumix S5, the 18-40mm from my Lumix S9, and now the 24-105mm zoom.
The Lumix S1R II’s outstanding features are, of course, its 44-megapixel sensor and the option to record videos up to 8.1K. The body is practically the same size as the Lumix S5 IIx, but the display can be fully tilted, and the photo and video functions are almost completely separated by dedicated buttons, which proves to be a real advantage in practice.
In addition It turns out that in both video and photo modes, you can save up to 7 different settings for various requirements via the C1-C5 settings. Although it must be said that a 24 MP sensor, like the one in the S5 or S5 II(x), is sufficient for most photographic needs, a 44 MP sensor is something special. However, we’re then talking about almost 60 MB per RAW image, compared to just under 35 MB for the S5 IIx. Further experiences, especially regarding video, will follow in Part II.
As I reported last week, I started rebuilding my Lightroom Classic catalog after Lightroom repeatedly reported that the “old” catalog was corrupted. Apparently, at some point, which I unfortunately can’t pinpoint, more damage occurred than I initially thought. While it was fortunate that I had configured Lightroom some time ago to always write XMP files, I still have to rebuild several (Smart) Collections. And also some of my I have to recreate the stacked images, but in principle, I got off lightly.

And speaking of Adobe, they’ve released a bug-fix version of Lightroom Classic, but more importantly, version 27.3 of Photoshop, which brings several new features. For example, Firefly’s Generative Completion uses a higher resolution, making the transition between the original image and the parts added by Photoshop less obvious. There are also new adjustment layers, including ones for Clarity and Dehaze, as well as for adding grain.
All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you enjoyed the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.
