Weekly Review 45-2025: This week was so mild you could almost say early summer has arrived 🙂

Last week reivew 45-2025

After reporting on my experiences with the Wavlink Dock, this week’s article is about the UGreen Thunderbolt Dock 5. This dock was simply another opportunity to try it out, especially since it doesn’t require DisplayLink drivers.

The goal of such a dock, especially when used with a MacBook, is to increase the number of ports for drives, but also for other devices like webcams or microphones. I also have a Thunderbolt 4 enclosure, for example, which I use extensively with DaVinci Resolve.

However, in my opinion, this dock misses the mark, because the available Thunderbolt 5 ports have to be used to connect monitors, since the dock doesn’t have an HDMI and/or DisplayPort connection.

The goal of such a dock is, of course, to increase the number of ports for drives, but also for other devices like webcams or microphones. In my situation, this means that two ports are used for the monitors, one port for downstream on the MacBook, leaving only one port available for, for example, an external drive. Therefore, using a dock that costs almost €300 offers me no added value compared to not using a dock at all. That’s why I returned it.

Last week reivew 45-2025Canon has introduced the Canon R6 III, a camera with a 33 MP sensor. The camera can shoot continuous bursts at up to 40 frames per second and still manage 12 frames per second with the mechanical shutter. A standout feature is its ability to record up to 7K RAW images to a CFexpress card. It also includes tools like waveforms, proxy recording, and others that are standard in this price range. The camera is priced at €2,899 and is expected to be available from mid-November.

Canon has introduced the Canon R6 III, a camera with a 33 MP sensor. I’ve swapped my Sigma 105mm f/2.8 Macro lens for the equivalent Lumix 100mm f/2.8 Macro. The Sigma Macro was, of course, flawless in terms of image quality, but compared to the Lumix 100mm f/2.8, it was considerably heavier and, more importantly, larger. If you were to place, for example, the 50mm f/1.8 next to the 100mm f/2.8, you’d hardly notice a difference in size. Now I just need to take a few test shots.

All in all, another very eventful week. I hope you enjoyed the articles and look forward to your questions and comments.

ciao tuxoche
